SAN FERNANDO CITY (PIA) –  As the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) promotes the culture of ‘self-help communities’, it urged capable individuals to volunteer. 

According to Ed Regala, board of director of the PRC La Union Chapter, the recruitment of more volunteers aims to create a network of individuals who will be equipped to respond rapidly and efficiently to disasters and emergencies in the community.

Regala also noted volunteerism as the truest sense of community service which knows no gender, race, age, educational attainment, and color.

He strongly encouraged the public to take part in the PRC’s delivery of humanitarian services to the people.

“Lahat kami ngayon sa Red Cross ay may kanya-kanyang profession but we chose to be volunteers,” Regala said.

He added, “Kahit retired ka na pero you are able and capable and have the desire to serve the community, you are welcome to join the team.”

Regala emphasized that volunteerism only requires utmost commitment and dedication to serve.

Orientations and training will be provided based on the service area a volunteer is suited to be part of such as on safety, health, welfare, disaster, and blood donation.

Regala disclaimed that Red Cross Volunteers are not required to stay in the headquarters for a definite working hour but can serve depending on their availability or during their free time and will.
